Arachnophobia

This project was a study on phobias, focusing on the fear of spiders. Through research, I identified the features that trigger discomfort—razor-sharp teeth, clusters of glowing eyes, thick fur, and bold, venom-like colors. Using these elements, I created two variations: one in earthy browns to feel more natural and grounded, and another in striking reds and oranges to suggest poison and danger. The models were sculpted and built in Zbrush and later added onto in Blender, with hair particle systems added to achieve a realistic yet exaggerated fuzziness that enhances their creep factor. Texturing was done in Substance Painter, allowing me to push the fine surface details and color variation for a more tactile, unsettling look. Lighting and rendering choices emphasized their threatening stance and menacing presence, making the spiders feel as if they’re about to lunge at the viewer.
